Had I been watching last night's game on the TV, I'd probably have said it was a pretty boring and uneventful game. The score board was full of zeros. Lots of blanking the lineups, and at least for the Angels, not a whole lot of hits. The A's had 9 and left 9 stranded, but only scored 3 runs. Weaver wasn't at his best last night, but somehow held it to two runs, and really worked to get himself out of a lot of two-/three-runners on base in several innings. Darren Oliver continued to prove his worth in the bull-pen, and K-Rod still gets himself out of some crazy 9th inning jams, despite giving up the third run.
In terms of the hitting, not much going on for the Angels yesterday. When they read off the lineup, I thought, "now THAT'S odd." It was Cabrera's first night as lead-off, Kendrick following (they put him here because they're hoping he can hit when no one's on base, since he can't when someone IS, so they figured they'd get him on base and have someone else get him in. Guess it worked), Vlad and GA in their usual spots, followed by Kendry taking first from Kotchman last night, Matthews (who made some excellent plays, as usual), Quinlan (who is exceptional against left-handed pitchers, thus his use at third last night), Juan Rivera DHing (a DH with an .000 batting average, ha!), and finally The Wall. As far as the beginning up it, not the usual lineup. It seems they were trying to put in all the guys that are on fire right now, and all the guys good against lefties (ie. lefty, plus Quinlan). It did an "ok" job that way, with Quinlan, Kendry and GA all 2-3, I believe.
So the only runs scored came off home runs, first a two-run by Kendrick, and another by GA. I can't believe GA right now. Everyone had him totally counted out for this year, with his hip flexor stint on the DL and stuff like that. But since the All-Star break, he's been insane. 52 RBIs in 49 games. That's just flat disgusting. Who does that??? Oh, Magglio Ordonez... ha! Not to mention all the home runs he's been hitting. Glad he's doing his job as cleanup. And he stole a base last night! WHAT??? THIS IS GA???
But as I was saying, it probably wouldn't have been so interesting had I been watching the game from home last night. Only four runs off two two-run homers. Not all that interesting. I would've rather watched on TV a running game. But here's the difference - I WAS THERE. And I took some pictures!
Isn't it beautiful? Yes. Yes it is. It was actually a decent night last night, compared to the 120 degree whether we've had out here in Southern California lately.
Those were our seats. Section 104, row A. Yes, that's on the ground. Just to the left of the foul pole. That's foul territory. Only no one really hit into it last night. Even still, we had a great view of GA:
There was some idiot sitting behind us that came down to the front row last night during the 8th or 9th inning, I can't remember which, And started waving his stupid little free maracas at GA and yelling at him (we were pretty close to him all night) like he was a freaking MONKEY or something. "Here GA, here boy. Good boy, good boy GA!" Idiot. I wanted to punch him in the face. Go have another beer dude, like you need it.
This is The Wall. The Wall is good. We like The Wall. Go The Wall!!!
So as you can see, I rather enjoyed the game, even if it was full of zeros and pretty uneventful in all. I was kinda bummed I never got to see Reggie Willits (I was hopeful they'd play him in left for a day, but my hopes were dashed, blast it all!) or Izturis bat (he was actually next in the lineup at the end of the game, pinch hitting for Quinlan when they switched to a right-handed reliever) but alas, he never quite made it up...
However, I did get to see GA on his streak. Ridiculous. And I did get to see Weaver pitch in person for the first time (I've seen Lackey, Escobar, and Saunders twice now), and see his crazy delivery, even though he wasn't quite on with location tonight. But let me tell you, the guy doesn't really miss by much, like, ever.
But the good thing is, the Angels now have the series from Oakland, 2 of the 3 with a chance to sweep in about an hour and a half from right now. I'll be watching, of course, but from the comfort of my couch today. So don't expect any more pictures! Ha! But I'll leave you with one more:
Just another Halo victory!
