I'm scared of Colon. Starting today, that is.
We only need one more. How about we stop prolonging the celebration here and just party?
There's actually a lot going on around baseball right now. 1) Tommy Lasorda turned 80, he's pretty much awesome, even if I'm not a Dodger's fan... 2) Beckett was the first to get to 20, damn him ha! 3) Bonds won't be back in San Fran next season... And there is so much going around baseball predicting where he'll be next year. The general consensus believes he'll be in the AL next year as a DH. I can see for what reasons, and I'm going to probably agree on that front. Because of the whole "Big Bat" criticism of the Angels, the franchise has been linked to both Bonds and still A-Rod. I haven't heard any official releases, or even any mention during the games or from the commentators or anything with real affiliation to the Angels on this issue. But, both names have been linked to possibilities with the Angels.
And here's my take on this. Bill Stoneman, for what I have observed of his business strategies and his philosophy of the game, is a smart man with a vision. For one, I think A-Rod is too expensive for the Angels. His asking price will be much too high. Also, I know he would be unwilling to fill the DH position, and we've got so many players already vying for the spots in the infield. A-Rod is looking for a World Series ring. His attitude is that he's the best player in the Majors and he has nothing to show for it. If the Yankees are unsuccessful this year, it's possible he'll make a move. And his move will be for this reason. I don't really see him moving out of the AL, unless he goes somewhere like Chicago. But I'm not sure I see that happening. But it may be possible that if the Angels do end up with another World Series, he may look more seriously, personally, at the team. But as I said earlier, I don't believe the Angels will be willing to pay him. It's just too much, and it's not a typical move for the team. The only thing that would make it a possibility: If the Angels win the World Series, and A-Rod looks to move their, he may have to lower his asking price. It's simple supply-demand. He's demanding a ring, if the Angels can supply it, he'll have to work withing THEIR parameters. Otherwise, he's elsewhere.
And the deal with Bonds... I remember reading a lot last summer about Bonds' free agency and all the speculation about him going to the Angels. They talked to Bill Stoneman directly on that one, and he said something to the effect of: "We will not be pursuing Bonds. He doesn't fit the dynamics of the team." Something like that. So I'm assuming this off-season will be no different, really.
...
UPDATE:
So we're still missing the division clinch... but tomorrow should be a better chance, with Lackey pitching, and not someone so wholly unreliable. We really need to stop making errors. Grr.
I'm waiting to blow up balloons and type in all caps and get excited...

Do you really believe that we are going to pay A-Rod 30 million dollars to DH????? Not in 30 million years. We would stick him at third base and most likely move Chone Figgins to an outfield platoon while having Anderson DH. Unfortunately, Willits would probably would be riding the pine a lot more often but we have to face the facts. Even though Willits is a very talented player, Chone Figgins and A-Rod are more valuable.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for Bonds DH'ing in the AL, it will not be in Anaheim. Scioscia and Stoneman prefer more well rounded players. They are not going to cough up the big bucks for a 43 year old PR nightmare who can't run or do anything else for shit besides hit. Besides, I don't want Bonds putting on a Halos uniform.
no, i really don't think A-Rod will be playing with the Angels. I don't see this happening. That was all just a hypothetical. I don't want him on the team anyway.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't think he will be playing here either. I am just saying that in the event that they DO decide to cough up the dough and sign him, there is no way in hell he'd be the DH.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for wanting A-Rod to play here, I respect your opinion but I have to disagree. Sure, A-Rod can be a dick and a dirty player, but personally, I think that he would help us win games and that is the goal of baseball. To win. I don't care if he's a dick if he can help bring another title to Anaheim. That is just my opinion though.
it's not that i think he's a dick at all. that's not why i don't want him on the team. i just, i really love the team the way it is. with relatively no-name players that really want to play. and it's nothing against a-rod, he's amazing, but it almost feels like selling out the team philosophy to buy him in. i dunno, that's just me lol
