ODE TO THE EAST COAST BIAS

It's ridiculous really. The calls have been, how do I put this.... CRAP. They call swinging strike three on Kotchman when the bat is still on his shoulder. He didn't swing. Not even REMOTELY. And Reggie??? Total B FREAKING S. The strike zone, gee, I love how it changes every inning. The curve balls? All over the place. I wonder how they're all strikes...

Anyway, enough of my complaining. But seriously. I've been reading up a lot on different websites, SI.com, foxsports.com, mlb.com, etc etc etc... All they talk about is the Yankees, and the Red Sox. Yeah, we get it already, they're good. Boston's been on top nearly all season, and the Yankees have staged an excellent comeback. We get it by now. It's August, we've heard enough. I really just want to be whiny right now about this, if you couldn't tell. I'd like to read about some other teams, other ones we're going to play at some point. Might be more helpful.

And to add to my personal frustrations with the East Coast bias, Kendrick came back today. Productive? HA! I know everyone's thinking "it's his first day back after being on the DL for over a month, give him some time." I have no sympathies here, ha! Be productive or be put on the bench!!! No mercy! So what if he got a base hit, pshhh. Not impressed. Wow, I'm really stubborn. I don't have a bias against him at all, nope, not me... plays Maicer would've had... tsk tsk...

And what the heck is with all the inside fastballs tonight???

However! There are some things I DID like about that game, to change my pessimistic tone. I'm becoming quite fond of Speier. I'm really not sure what it is about him. He's a good pitcher, he's been quite good for the club since his return from the DL, and his delivery is really fun to watch- he'll totally save his arm with the side-pitch, not snapping his elbow. He entertains me. But there's something about his demeanor, he just seems like he's probably a hell of a lot of fun to talk to. And even Moseley pitched better today, going passed his 4 2/3 inning average. More pitches. That's a good sign. I don't know how much more they'll be using him in the starting rotation, but it's still good for him to stretch himself. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Santana. And though I'm impressed with his last game (and there's no denying it was impressive), it could've been a fluke. Gonna need more than one example to convince me.

Nor do I think I've ever been more excited to see anyone pinch hit as I was for Maicer tonight. I was clapping and jumping up and down, and giddy. It was ridiculous.

NOR! Do I care if Reggie isn't hitting right now. He's hot. Period. The end.

Well Budde certainly proved his worth tonight, luck or not. This was probably the most important hit of the season thus far. I was actually on my way to a movie, listening to AM 710, when it went to extra innings. When we got to the theater, we bought our tickets and ran into a restaurant to see the end of the game playing at a bar. I couldn't miss it. That final hit, was like, the most exciting moment of my life.
Don't even judge. I love baseball. So sue me.

  1. Yeah the teams that get all the publicity are the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets (to some extent), Cubs, and Cardinals. Those are the most popular teams. Let's face it. Nobody outside of Orange County really cares about the Angels (for the most part). Even ESPN doesn't give the Angels the love they deserve. They have been neck and neck with the Red Sox for the best record in the majors all year and they have been leading the division for pretty much the entire season and ESPN still goes "So how about them Mariners?" and John Kruk even went as far as saying that all Seattle needed to win the division was confidence WITHOUT EVEN MENTIONING THE ANGELS. WHAT THE HELL?.Haha sorry but I really wish the Angels would get the credit that they deserve.

Yeah the umps have been teh suxorz. 10 bucks says that Reggie only swung at that high fastball off the plate because he knew they'd call it a strike anyways if he "spit on it" as Rex Hudler would say.

And for some more random notes....

I give props to Mathis and Budde for coming through at the plate. It was about time Mathis did something with the bat and as for Ryan Budde....his first two major league hits are against the Yankees and Red Sox and his first RBI is a walk off hit in extra innings. Does this mean he is destined for greatness? Haha. And also, I'd like to give props to Darren Oliver. He hasn't been talked about.....at all. He struggled horribly in the first half of the season but he has lowered his formerly 7+ ERA down below 4. He has really pitched well. It shows that Scioscia even has more confidence in him brining him in to pitch the 10th inning when the game was on the line. Oliver did just that and came through. He really has been an unsung hero as of late.

And as for my anonymity....I guess I'll tell you a little about myself. My name is Alex. I got to California Polytechnic State University of Pomona. I am majoring in Mathematics. I love baseball and being lazy. I get bored really easily as well. Hell, that is why I visited this blog in the first place. I came and liked what I read so I kept coming back. That's pretty much it lol.
